The City of Tsukuba is about 50 km northeast of Tokyo.

"Squares form a cube; a dice is a cube"
The question was very precise: cutting into small squares of 1/8" to
1/4". Cubing is cutting into squares of 1/2" or more. Only dicing
satisfies the question.

Sauteing involves cooking quickly in fat over high heat (several
sources). The question said to cook gently (not quickly) in butter,
oil, or the food own's juices (not fat) to soften but not brown.
